Resident & Family Support

The transition from independent living to long-term care can bring a range of emotions—uncertainty, grief, and even loss. At Salem Manor, we understand how challenging this time can be for both residents and their families.

Our Spiritual Care program offers a supportive presence and someone to talk to during these difficult moments. Whether you’re seeking comfort, guidance, or simply someone to listen, we’re here for you.

We also offer a variety of support programs to help you and your loved ones navigate this journey together with care, compassion, and understanding.

Butterfly Program

At Salem Manor, we believe in recognizing the lives and legacies of our residents with care and dignity. To support our community during times of loss, we are introducing the Butterfly Program. A thoughtful way to inform and comfort residents, families, and friends when someone in our Home has passed away.

How the Butterfly Program Works:

  • A Butterfly Lamp will be lit for 24 hours from the time of the resident’s passing.

  • A personalized card with the resident’s name and date of passing will be placed beside the lamp.

  • A butterfly symbol will be placed on the resident’s dining room card and on their room door.

Additional elements are being developed as part of this program, including a detailed booklet to explain the meaning and steps of the Butterfly Program. Stay tuned for more information.

If you have any questions, please contact Deb Grovet, the Director of Care for more details or support.

Family Council

he Family Council offers families a meaningful way to connect, share experiences, and support their loved ones in care. This self-directed group supported by our Social Worker, provides a space for discussion, feedback, advocacy, and involvement in home improvements.

The Council also offers mutual support and access to educational programs that help families stay informed and engaged.

Meeting Schedule:

Meetings are held in the Chapel on the last Wednesday of January, March, May, June, September, and November.

In other months, the Council may host educational or social events that promote life enrichment such as information fairs or guest presentations.

We encourage all family members to participate. Your voice matters, and your involvement makes a difference.
